The metal unibody of Galaxy On7 Prime gives a feeling of its strengthening. This phone with 8 millimeters thickness is slim and its grip in the hands is good. The texture of the metal back is smooth and does not have fingers on it. But this does not happen on the glass given on the front panel. Inadvertently, you will see a glimpse of Galaxy J7 Prime in its design which was launched in 2016 itself. Except for the new styled capacitive button, both phones look almost the same.
Due to 2.5D curved glass, the phone looks much better to look forward. In the Galaxy On7 Prime, the company has decided to give a screen with 16: 9 aspect ratio, that is, you will play the lack of current trend with 18: 9. The 5.5-inch screen is full-HD resolution. Because of this, pictures and texts look quite sharp. Colors also look accurate due to PLS TFT LCD.
Shocking is that this phone does not have an ambient light sensor. This was revealed when we used the phone in the dark. In this price, lack of features like NFC and Wi-Fi AC can be ignored. But there is disappointment when basic features like ambient light sensor are not provided. Because of this, we had to control the brightness of the display again and again.
Above the display is a 13 -megapixel selfie camera, notification LED and earpiece. At the same time, there is a physical home button on the lower back which is also a fingerprint sensor. There are capacitive buttons on either side of this sensor. The sensor will fast your fingers. The display becomes active only after touching the home button slightly. Capsitive buttons are not backlit, it also disappoints.
On the left, the volume button is at the top and there are two SIMs and microSD card slots below it. The primary SIM card can be placed in the first slot. The secondary slot has space for second SIM and microSD cards up to 256 GB. The speaker and power button are on the right side of the phone. Micro-USB port and 3.5mm headphone socket have found place on the lower back. In the box, you will find travel adapter, data cable, SIM eject tool and other important papers.

Samsung has not given many sensors in this phone. You will get a proximity sensor and accelerometer. Apart from the ambient light sensor, the phone has no compass or gyroscope. Whenever you search about a particular product in this app, this mall shows the search result of these websites to the user. You have to log in from the Samsung account before buying anything.
The information related to your payment or delivery in the mall app does not store. If you want to buy a product, the app redeelation on the web checkout page of the selected shopping site. For example, if you want to buy a product available on Amazon, the app will send you to Amazon India web interface, even if your phone also install the Amazon app. In this app you will see basic product description. For complete information, you will be redirected on the page of that shopping website.
You do not have the option to search by typing just to find a product. If you want, you will be able to search products through voice or pictures. There are buttons under the search box for them. If you want, you can search the product in the mall app with the help of a photo by clicking on the icon of the shopping bag in the photo gallery. The camera app also has an option of ‘Samsung Mall’. Our experience with visual search was not very good. This feature did not do the right thing at times. For example, instead of identifying the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung’s tablets and other phones came as results in the mall app. It is not that this feature never worked. Sometimes it also correctly identifies the product.
The phone also has support of Samsung Pay Mini. With the help of this, you can do transactions through other online payment wallets like UPI and Paytm-Mobiquic. They do good work. But due to lack of credit card integration, payment options are limited.
Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime Performance, Camera and Battery Life
On 7 Prime works well in common use, but according to us the interface should have been smooth. Apps have a slight delay in switching to portraits and landscap oaretions. We found many times that touch response does not register properly. Make it clear that this deficiency did not come out again and again. But many times during the review, the experience of using smartphones was definitely bad. The brightness of the screen is sufficient to use outdoor, but you have to control it yourself. Not having a compass means that while using Google Maps, you will not be able to know which direction you are looking.
We liked one thing about this phone, it would not get hot quickly. Whether playing games or using camera in outdoor, it was rarely heated, which is a good thing. The benchmark performance was also not affecting. Casual games go well, but the frame rate does not smoke in a powerful graphics game like Asphalt 8.
There was no problem in playing 1080 pixels videos in Galaxy On7 Prime. The speakers are not very good. This does not bring enough sound for the media file.
Now talk about camera. The phone has 13 megapixel sensors with F/1.9 aperture on the front and rear panel. The autofocus of the rear camera does not work fast, that too in good light. It is not easy to capture the subject. Details come properly in landscape shot. But the camera fails to achieve the right exposure several times. Because of this, some parts of the shot seem to be burnt out. There is also HDR mode but the results are not very good. Wide aperture lenses in clause up shot provide good depth of field. But colors are not very accurate.

Performance is less than expectations even in low light. Details in landscape do not come properly and autofocus is slow. You will be able to record videos up to 1080 pixels resolution. The quality of the recorded video is also very average. Please tell that there is no electronic image stabilization in the phone. The camera app also has some shooting modes, but these are not for the video.
The front camera is also of 13 megapixels and it is also F/1.9 aperture. The front camera works properly in daylight. But this does not happen in low light. It has a screen flash, but it is not very effective. The selfie focus feature tries to provide portrait mode effects, but the results are not very good.
The camera app also has a social sharing feature. With the help of this, you will be able to share any picture on Facebook and WhatsApp quickly.
The battery life is good according to the 3300 mAh battery. After full-charging the battery in common use, we could use the phone throughout the day. The battery level does not decline much rapidly even while using powerful apps. The brightness of the screen goes to a minimum level when the battery power is less than 5 per cent. If you want, you can also increase it. There is no fast charging support. It will take about 3 hours to charge the phone from the charger given in the retail box.
Our decision
After spending enough time with Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime, we also realized why Samsung launched the Samsung Mall feature with this handset. Because without it, there is nothing special in the Galaxy On7 Prime. The variant we reviewed is priced at Rs 14,990. This is very expensive, especially when some very basic features like ambient light sensors have been given. It is certain that Samsung will soon make the mall app a part of its other handset.
Apart from good battery life, the phone does not excite in any other department. Samsung Mall is a good idea, but currently it is in the initial stage. There is a need to do a lot of work on the visual search on which Samsung is promoting vigorously. If you want a Samsung phone of Rs 15,000, then Samsung Galaxy on Max is a better option. If seen, Moto G5S Plus (Review) and Xiaomi Mi A1 (Review) are a more profitable deal for you.
