Taiwan’s smartphone manufacturer made a new start in 2017 with HTC’s U series. With this series, the company has given a new design and look in the new smartphone. Their most important specialty is the new ‘liquid surface’ treatment given in his chassis.

Today, we are testing HTC You Play- this is a small and Zayad affordable variant of the U series. HTC has never been very aware of its premium smartphone prices. So if we have used the word affordable then it is connected to U Ultra. 39,990 is a big price, especially when you can buy a spectacular Galaxy S7 (review) of Samsung by paying a little higher price.

Does you play only look beautiful or do it show strength in performance too? Let’s know.

HTC You Play Design and Texture
Prose, we have not been fans of big screen smartphones. We preferred HTC You Play with 5.2 inch displays for daily use.

Talk about design and beauty, HTC has introduced another great smartphone. The smartphone looks very spectacular from every side, but it is also difficult to keep it clean. However, it is easy to use the phone with one hand, but catching the phone due to its slipping rear seems like a challenge. We found a black variant for the review but this phone is also available in Saifier Blue, Snow and White and Make-up powder pink color variants at HTC India’s online store.

The 5.2 inch super LCD display given in the phone comes with Gorilla Glass Protection and it comes with a full HD resolution. The screen of the screen is 428 PPI. Brightness is shiny and viewing angles are also very good. Color remains good saturated without any blurring. The color temperature can be adjusted by going to the setting app as per your need. While the display is sharp, we saw the difference in the color on shaking the phone slightly. A notification above the screen is LED and the backlit Android navigation buttons near the home button are given. The fingerprint sensor has been integrated in the home button itself.

HTC U Play is a thin device with 7.99 mm thickness and weighs just 145 grams. Grip is good from the edges made of metal of the phone. We feel that they could be given in a better place to reach power and volume buttons easily.

The phone has a USB Type-C port and mono speaker grill at the bottom. The top and hybrid sim slot is given. The storage of the phone can be increased to 2 TB via microSD card. The rear camera in the phone is slightly out of the outside but not too much. Like U Ultra, this phone has a 3.5mm headphone shock.

Overall, the use of U play is more than Ultra, while it is equally premium. In the retail box, you will find a type-C cable, a plastic case, a 10 watt power adapter, a SIM Izer tool, a microfiber cloth and a yusonic headset.

HTC You Play Specification & Feature
HTC You Play has an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor. The phone has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. We do not expect MediaTek chipset in products with flagship levels and it is not a flagship level processor. Therefore, we are a little surprised when HTC uses this processor. Let us know that in Moto M, priced at Rs 16,000, also gave a faster helio P15 processor. But still this processor is fine for daily activity. In benchmark, we got 10–15 percent less figures from Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 with the same capacity.

Talking about the second specification, this phone has features like 4.2, dual-band Wi-Fi AC, NFC, USB-OTG, GPS and GLONASS for connectivity. The phone does not have FM radio. Apart from this, 4G VoLTE support is also available. There is also gyroscope and a magnetic sensor.

You Play runs on Android Marshmallow, which is a big question. Especially in view of its big variants, which runs on Android Nougat. Apart from this, HTC’s sense of sense UI is also a low version which was seen in HTC 10 last year. In the phone, HTC has given Google’s app suit instead of its many apps. For example, the gallery has been given a play music from the photoz app while for audio.

You can access HTC’s Blinkfide News Reader when swipe on the homescreen first on the homescreen. And it consists of many other apps such as underarmer records, themes and news Republics already installed. HTC has given a new UI Assistant to separate its U series. When we first set HTC U Play, we did not get any indication to use this feature. And until we get the app, we could not make sure whether it is in the feature phone.

HTC You Play Performance
The performance of the phone is excellent due to clean software and large RAM. Multitasking is very well in U play and we never had any problem while doing normal work in the phone and running a social app. We could also play the game well in the phone. However, there were some problems during a select graphics game.

The upper part of the rear becomes hot during the use and charging camera in the phone. But the problem of warmth did not appear during normal use. The call quality from the phone is good and the sound from the earpiece is also good. The fingerprint sensor also works well and identifies fingers rapidly.

Media playback is not very bad, as there was no problem in playing full HD video in the phone. High-boyfriend files also went well in the phone. 4K videos cannot play due to the processor in the phone. Loudspeaker is fine for alert but it is not best for media files. You Play comes with a Type-C Yusonic headset whose performance can be read in detail in the performance section of HTC U Ultra.

The overall performance of both cameras is good, although we are more happy than video features like slow-motion. The 16 -megapixel rear camera comes with PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS) and aperture F/2.0 and also captures photos with good detailing in low light. Auto HDR mode in backlit scenes helps to increase detailing. Due to wide aperture, a good depth-off-field is available in close-up shot. The second shooting mode has Zo cameras- from which the picture and a three-second video can be recorded. Apart from this, there is also panorama and pro mode. Landscape photos in low light show lack of detailing but close-up shots are better.

The quality of the video recorded is good, but there is no option for video recording of 4K in the phone. The U play has a 16 -megapixel fixed focus front camera equipped with aperture F/2.0. The selfie coming from the phone looks good and a picture can be taken in a group with many people in selfie panorama mode. The front camera also has a video recording of up to 1080 pixels, and has a screen flash, timer.

HTC has given a 2500 mAh battery in U Play. But in our HD video loop test, the battery supported for 8 hours and 44 minutes. During general use, we could run the phone for a full day, which is not bad. Fast charging support does not get fast charging support from 10 watt adapters coming with the phone. The phone has Extreme Power Saving Mode of HTC, which gives closure of background connectivity features and gets basic features like calling and messages.

Our decision
HTC is a good looking device whose texture is better and overall performance is also good. This phone gets good display, brilliant capacity camera and long battery life. This phone is available to buy. We did not get any information about the time of getting Android Nougat update in the phone, but it is expected to get this update soon.

Talking about the shortcomings of the phone, the high price and a budget processor reduces its rating. It is difficult to suggest buying HTC You Play with a price of Rs 39,990. You can choose a flagship smartphone such as Samsung Galaxy S7 or other options like Moto Z (Review) by paying a little more than such a price.
