Huawei is slowly launching its device in India under its sub-brand Honor. As part of his strategy, Honor has made its place in almost all the price segment priced below Rs 30,000. Honor 8 (Review) is the company’s existing flagship device and now Honor 8 Pro will replace it. Honor 8 Pro has a dual rear camera and it will challenge OnePlus 5. Today we will know what are the pleasures in Honor 8 Pro and how it performs.

Honor 8 Pro Design
Comparing the previous Honor 8, the design of Honor 8 Pro is slightly different from this. Glossy Glass Rear was given in the old variants while Honor 8 Pro has a metal unibody. This phone is available in Midnight Black and Navy Blue color variants. The smartphone is quite thin and its thickness is just 6.79 millimeters and its side is curved. The shocking thing is that despite having a thin body, the phone has a 4000 mAh battery.

On the front, the phone has a 5.7 inch AMOLED panel equipped with a super-slim side border. The upper and lower part of the phone is thick and a Honor logo is given under the screen. Above the screen is an 8 -megapixel selfie sensor with earpiece and sensor. The phone has a power and volume button on the right side. It is easy to reach the power button but you have to work a little to reach the volume button. Honor 8 Pro is a SIM slot on the left side. Honor has given a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom. Apart from this, loudspeakers and primary microphones are also below. On the top, a secondary microphone and an IR Ameter Harai can be controlled by home appliances.

Honor

Talking about the most important feature of Honor 8 Pro, there are two rear cameras and a dual-tone LED flash in the left corner on its rear. Separated from the second phone, both cameras are under a glass with the body of the smartphone i.e. there is no bulge. Due to being under the glass, the lens will not be scratched. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the rear and we feel that it would have been more convenient if it had given it a little more. You have to move your fingers slightly or adjust the device in your hand to reach the fingerprint scanner.

Honor has given 18 watt charger and a USB cable with the phone in the box. But the good thing is that the box can be converted into a cardboard-style VR headset. The phone contains everything required, including lenses.

Honor 8 Pro Specification
Honor 8 Pro has attractive specifications. The 5.7 inch display comes with a quad HD resolution. The density of the screen is 515 pixels per inch. The front panel of the phone is equipped with 2.5D curved corning gorilla glass for safety. The color on the display is fantastic and vivids. Maybe some users may not like the bright color reproduction and there is no way to reduce it. The user only has the option to change the color temperature according to his choice. Apart from this, there is also a night mode, which claims that it will give relief to the eyes in case of low light. We enjoyed watching the video on the display. The single speaker of the phone brings a loud sound but we feel that it would have been better to give stereo speakers in the front.

Honor

Huawei has given his Kirin 960 processor in Honor 8 Pro. The phone has an octa-core processor equipped with Cortex A73 core and 1.8 GHz running at 2.3 GHz. Comparing Snapdragon 835 given in OnePlus 5, it looks a bit old. Honor 8 Pro has 128 GB storage with 6 GB RAM. Storage can be increased via microSD card. The phone slots hybrid sim. Up to 100 GB of storage remains empty in the phone.

The phone supports Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi AC and NFC. Honor 8 Pro is a dual SIM device that comes with two Nano-SIM slots. The phone has 4G, VoLTE and career integration.

Honor 8 Pro Software & Performance
The company has EMUI 5.1 skin in Honor 8 Pro, which is slightly more new than the Honor 8 Lite skin. The UI is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. And our review unit has a June security update in advance. With 6 GB RAM, there was no problem while installing apps and games in Honor 8 Pro. While switching between the app, we found that it takes less time to reload them. After a day’s use, the phone had 3.5 GB of RAM all the time, which is very spectacular.

In addition, the phone also has a one-handed mode that makes it easier to use large devices. Fingerprint scanner gesture can pull down the notification shed and also dismiss notifications. The phone has some apps that Honor has already installed but most of them can be uninstall.

Honor

Software also has some battery saving options. There is a power saving mode, which reduces background apps and remains auto-skin disabled. Apart from this, ultra power saving mode stops everything except those apps you have chosen. We also saw a screen power saving option, which claims that it reduces the resolution of the display to save the battery. At the time of our use, this option did not work because all the time our device showed QuadHD resolution.

The phone has a voice control feature that works with an idiom ‘Dear Honor’. If you are not getting the phone, then you can loudly reflect from the device where it is and the phone will react through a sharp tone and the flashlight will also burn. Apart from this, you can also use custom command, but we noticed that most of them did not work, which did not prove the usefulness of this feature.

We tested Honor 8 Pro on benchmark. The phone scored good in the benchmarking test but the performance of OnePlus 5, which came with Snapdragon 835 processor, was better. The phone lasted for 10 hours and 19 minutes in our HD video loop test and at the time of general use we were able to run it for a full day.

Honor 8 Pro Camera
The most important feature of Honor 8 Pro is the dual 12 megapixel rear camera given in it. Separate from the telephoto lens for the second camera given in the second smartphone, both these sensors have been used for RGB and monochrome. Honor claims that the monochrome sensor will get better photos. Honor has given his camera app with several modes. The auto mode is set as a default, while for photos and videos you can take control by using pro mode. For a black-and-white picture you can just set monochrome mode to use monochrome sensors. We found that the phone was heated while using the camera while it is not hot while playing games and doing other work.

The photos taken from the phone are very good and the detailing was also better than the average. The color came accurate and we did not have any problem even after shooting us against the light. Macro shots were also good while there was a good difference between the subject and the background. In low light, we saw that the camera sharpens the pictures, which increases the noise and lacks detailing. Selfies are good and the camera app makes them more beautiful. Default, the camera app adds watermarks in the photos, promoting the name of the phone. You can disable it but this option is not found in the setting menu. We hope that this default will not remain in the unit received by customers.

Honor can record 4K videos from 8 Pro to recording but no autofocus is continuously remained. You can switch 30 frames per second or 60 to 1080 pixels per second to enable autofocus. While recording the video, we had some trouble in the viewfinder but this did not make a difference.

Our decision
Honor has given the best technology in his Honor 8 Pro smartphone, which is the best according to the industry’s standard. Kirin 960 is the best processor of Huawei but it is less than Snapdragon 835 processor. Honor 8 Pro runs on the latest version of EMUI. Comparing OnePlus 5, you will get double storage and more screen resolution at a low price.

The camera performance of the phone is much better and the dual camera function also gives great performance. Monochrome sensor helps and we liked the detailing of each picture very much. Overall, we liked pictures taken from Honor 8 Pro.

It seems that Honor 8 Pro is an excellent all-rounder. It may not be a perfect package but it is not far behind. And of course it is less expensive than Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro and Moto Z2 Play. With Rs 29,999, it is cheaper than OnePlus 5 and has all the possibilities of a flagship smartphone.
