Oppo A5S design
Oppo A5S is a light phone and its body is made of plastic. The first thing that will draw your attention is its 6.2 inch display. This phone comes with Waterdrop Notch. Oppo There are thin bezels on the edges of A5S but the border on the lower part of the phone is slightly thick. The earpiece has got a place over the Waterdrop Notch.
The back panel of Oppo A5S is made of glossy plastic, on which fingers are easily fallen but you will get a clear case in the retail box. Oppo A5S has two color variants- one black and the other red. The frame of the Oppo A5S is curved, due to which the phone gets easily fit in the hand.
In Oppo A5S, the power button on the right side of the phone, while the volume button has got a place on the left side of the phone. Hands reach the volume button easily. The lower part of the phone has loudspeakers grills, micro-USB ports and 3.5 mm headphone jack. Sim-tray is placed on the left side of the phone.
Oppo A5S is equipped with dual-nano sim slot and microSD card slot. Two rear cameras on the back panel of Oppo A5S and fingerprint sensor for security will be found. Oppo A5S has a 4,230 mAh battery to revive life. With this budget smartphone of Oppo brand, VOOC rapid charger will not be available in the box.
Oppo a5s specification and software
The Oppo A5S has a 6.2 -inch HD+ display, its aspect ratio is 19: 9. Its viewing angles are good but it is not very bright in outdoor. In the settings, you will get the option to adjust the color tone of the display. For speed and multitasking, the MediaTek Helio P35 processor has been used in Oppo A5S, which has a speed of 2.3 GHz.
PowerviR GE8320 GPU has been used in Oppo A5S for graphics. Only one variant of the Oppo A5S has been launched which is equipped with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage variants. It is possible to increase storage with the help of microSD card if needed. Oppo A5S includes dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth version 4.2, GPS, Glonos, Beidou, Galileo, FM Radio and USB-OTG.
When we started using the phone for the first time, our review unit was running on March 2019 security patch. But after getting the phone update, this phone is now running on April 2019 Android Security Patch. ColorOS does not have an app launcher and all apps are on the icon home screen.
Oppo A5S has some blotware. Our review unit has already pre-install apps like Facebook, Opera, Phone Manager, Theme Store, Music Party and Game Space. The game space automatically adds a compatible game and gives you an option to lock screen brightness and block banner notifications so that there is no obstruction of any kind in your gaming session.
You can also uninstall some of these apps to empty storage. You can change the look of UI with the help of a free theme. Smart Sidebar is a pop-out tray where you will get app shortcuts and it can be launched from any screen. When the phone is on standby, you can also open the app by making letters i.e. gesture on the screen.
Oppo A5S performance, battery life and camera
Given the hardware given in Oppo A5S, its performance is good. Oppo A5S opens scrolling and app without any problem but it is not sharp in multitasking. We found that the phone often has to re-launch the apps as it does not run in many apps in the background.
The back panel of Oppo A5S has a fingerprint sensor. The hand to the sensor easily reaches and it unlocks the phone quickly. Oppo A5S will also get face unlock support and it also works fast. We liked the display of Oppo A5S but loudspeakers make the sound a little slow.
In this price segment, the sound quality of Oppo A5S is less than the average of all the other smartphones we have tested. Redmi 6 The MediaTek Helio P35 processor given in Oppo A5S is slightly more powerful than the Helio P22 chipset. If Redmi Y3 ,Review) And Redmi 7 ,Review) If the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor is compared to the processor, Helio P35 has scored slightly less in the CPU and Graphics Benchmark.
We saw the PUBG Mobile game playing in Oppo A5s and it was on low-setting by default. The game space was enabled, so the phone clears RAM every time when the game is launched.
However, it takes more time than normal to load the game. We found that while playing, the phone would sometimes slow down, due to which the frame rate had to be set on the smooth experience during gaming. After playing 20 minutes PUBG mobile, we found that 4 percent of the battery was reduced which is acceptable.
The 4,230 mAh battery given in Oppo A5S gives better battery life. In our HD video loop test, the smartphone supported for a short time from 24 hours. We used the phone in a normal way as played PUBG Mobile, used Whatsapp and used Google Maps for navigation. Even after all this, Oppo A5S supported for two days.
The charger found with the phone takes more than two hours to fully charge the phone. The Oppo A5S has two rear cameras, a 13 -megapixel primary sensor with aperture F/2.2 and a 2 -megapixel depth sensor, whose aperture is F/2.4. There is an 8 -megapixel front camera for selfie and video calling with aperture F/2.0.
We found that the camera app of Oppo A5S is quite easy to use. Apart from standard photos and video modes, Oppo A5S has portate and pano mode. In default mode, you will find buttons for flash, HDR, timer and flitter, with the help of which you will be able to apply before taking the picture. Apart from this, face beauty button has also been given. The 2x Digital Zoom button is also provided.
In daylight, Oppo A5S captures the light properly and the exposure also comes in the photos. Oppo A5S focuses quickly while taking a macro shot. This maintains the difference between the subject and the background. The detail average in the macro shot came and the photos were not much sharp. While taking photos in portrait mode, we found that the age detection was not favorable.
The camera performance in low-light did not come up very much. The phone takes more time to lock the focus, due to which there is a lack of brightness in the pictures. Oppo A5S keeps the noise under control but when zoom is seen and there is also a lack of details. In the selfie drawn from Oppo A5S, the details are well captured and the phone manages the exposure properly.
Both primary and front cameras are capable of recording video at a maximum of 1080p resolution. But video stabilization is not given in Oppo A5S.
Our decision
Oppo A5S has been launched in the price segment of less than Rs 10,000 in India. This segment will get a tough challenge to this smartphone of Oppo brand. The specialty of Oppo A5S is its battery life. We found that the camera performance is favorable but in this price segment we have seen better than this. In this segment, Oppo A5S has only less than other options in the RAM market.
If you are not fond of playing gaming in your smartphone and you give importance to battery life, then Oppo A5s can prove to be a good phone for you. But if performance is important for you, then in the same price segment Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 ,Review) And Asus zenfone max pro m2 ,Review) Smartphones can prove to be the best option for you.
